Discover Lake Son-Kul and Lake Issyk-Kul (7 Days)

We meet you at the airport and comfortably transfer you to a cozy guesthouse — time to rest a little, refresh after your flight, and gently tune in to the journey ahead. On the very first day, we head out for an introductory walk through Ala-Too Square, the vibrant heart of Bishkek, where the rhythm of the city is felt most clearly.
During the tour, you will explore the cultural and public center of the capital: the spacious main square, the State History Museum, and learn what defines the city’s life today and which events gather thousands of people here. We stroll along the shaded alleys of Oak Park, admire its open-air sculptures, and experience the rare blend of modern urban life and history near the old St. Nicholas Church. This light yet engaging walk becomes the perfect beginning of your adventure — your very first connection with Kyrgyzstan through its welcoming capital.

After breakfast, we leave Bishkek and begin our journey toward the high-altitude Son-Kul Lake in the Naryn region (approximately 300 km). The road gradually leads us away from the capital into open valleys and mountain landscapes, revealing the wild beauty of Kyrgyzstan.
Along the way, we stop for a light local snack — traditional fried layered pastries served with hot tea — a simple but authentic taste of the region. We also pause at the Orto-Tokoy Reservoir, where the contrast of blue water against the surrounding hills creates a striking panorama and a perfect photo opportunity.
By afternoon, we reach Son-Kul — a large high-altitude alpine lake nestled in a mountain basin between the inner ranges of the Tien Shan, bordered by the Son-Kol-Too and Moldo-Too ridges. Located at an altitude of 3,016 meters above sea level in the northwestern part of Naryn Province, the lake impresses with its scale, silence, and untouched landscapes. After a walk around the area to take in the fresh mountain air and endless horizons, we settle into traditional yurts, where you will experience the atmosphere of true nomadic life.

After breakfast, we travel along the scenic southern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake toward the village of Kyzyl-Tuu (approximately 200 km). The road follows the sparkling waters of the lake, framed by mountain ranges that create ever-changing and dramatic landscapes.
On the way, we stop for a short walk to the Son-Kul (Kyzyrty) waterfall, where you can feel the cool mountain air and enjoy the soothing sound of cascading water. We then cross the Dolon Pass at around 3,000 meters above sea level — a place of breathtaking panoramic views stretching across endless valleys and peaks.
Later, we visit a local berkutchi (eagle hunter), where you will witness a traditional eagle hunting demonstration and learn about the ancient nomadic heritage preserved through generations. By evening, we arrive in the village of Kyzyl-Tuu, famous for its skilled craftsmen who build traditional Kyrgyz yurts — the portable homes of nomads. We settle into a cozy guesthouse, relax after the journey, and immerse ourselves in the authentic culture of the region.

After a traditional breakfast, we set off toward Karakol, following the picturesque southern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake (approximately 200 km). Our first stop is the Fairytale Canyon (Skazka) — a fantastic landscape of red and orange rock formations shaped by wind and time into arches, towers, and narrow passages. It’s a wonderful place for an easy walk, capturing the play of light and shadow, and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere accompanied by the gentle sound of a nearby stream.
We then continue to the Barskoon Gorge for a scenic walk to the “Tears of the Snow Leopard” waterfall, considered one of the most beautiful in the region. Our journey proceeds to the famous Jeti-Oguz Gorge, known for its striking red rock formations called the “Seven Bulls,” alpine meadows, mountain rivers, and sweeping views of the Tien Shan peaks. Along the way, we also see the “Broken Heart” rock and the “Maiden’s Braid” waterfall — perfect spots to pause, relax, and take memorable photos.
By evening, we arrive in Karakol, check into a cozy guesthouse, and enjoy a well-deserved rest after a day rich in landscapes and discoveries.

Mountain Adventure to the Alpine Camp and Gorge
In the morning, after breakfast, we drive to the starting point of our mountain adventure, where we switch to a 4x4 vehicle for an exciting off-road journey. The route follows rugged mountain tracks and scenic trails, revealing spectacular views of the Tien Shan range. Along the way, we make several stops at panoramic viewpoints to take photos, stretch our legs, and fully appreciate the wild beauty of the surroundings.
Our destination is the Altyn Arashan Gorge — a true alpine paradise hidden deep within the mountains. This narrow valley is framed by steep rocky slopes and evergreen fir trees, while a crystal-clear mountain river flows through its heart. The area is famous for its natural hot springs, where you can relax in warm mineral pools under the open sky, surrounded by snow-capped peaks.
A walk through the gorge offers a powerful sense of connection with nature: silence, fresh mountain air, and the gentle sound of running water create an atmosphere of peace and harmony. This is an ideal place for light trekking, photography, and well-deserved relaxation in one of Kyrgyzstan’s most scenic highland landscapes.

We begin the morning in Karakol with a hearty and delicious breakfast — a full and inspiring day lies ahead. Our first stop is the Przhevalsky & Karasaev Museum and Memorial Complex in the village of Pristan-Przhevalsk, just 12 km from Karakol. Opened in 1957 and built in an austere neoclassical style, the museum houses more than 2,000 exhibits: personal belongings of the explorer, rare documents and photographs, expedition discoveries, and detailed displays arranged across ten thematic sections.
We then continue toward Cholpon-Ata, immersing ourselves in the beauty of the famous “Issyk-Kul necklace” of gorges. Our route takes us into Semenov Gorge — a wide valley stretching about 30 km, where the glacial Ak-Suu River rushes through slopes covered with Tien Shan spruce and fragrant mountain herbs. Next, we visit the Ananyev (Kyrchyn) Gorge, known as the main venue of the World Nomad Games, before heading to Grigoriev Gorge, where dense spruce forests, a lively mountain river, and untouched landscapes create a feeling of timeless wilderness.
Here we enjoy a picnic-style lunch in a traditional yurt camp by the water, surrounded by peaceful nature. Throughout the journey, we stop at the most scenic viewpoints for photos and short walks. By evening, we arrive in Cholpon-Ata, check into a cozy guesthouse, and unwind after a day rich in culture, history, and breathtaking landscapes.

After breakfast, we depart for Bishkek (approximately 270 km), enjoying our final views of Issyk-Kul along the way. Before leaving Cholpon-Ata, we visit the Rukh-Ordo Cultural Center — a unique open-air complex located directly on the lakeshore. The site includes the memorial house of Chingiz Aitmatov, sculptures inspired by his literary works, museums, exhibition halls with ethnic symbols of nomadic culture, a photo gallery, and a concert hall whose stage opens toward the panoramic waters of Issyk-Kul.
The complex also features monuments dedicated to great thinkers, philosophers, and public figures, as well as five small religious chapels representing the world’s major faiths: Orthodox and Catholic Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and Judaism — symbolizing dialogue and unity between cultures.
Continuing our journey, we stop in the town of Tokmok to visit the Burana Tower, an ancient minaret dating back to the 9th–11th centuries from the Karakhanid state in the Chuy Valley. This historic monument, located about 80 km from Bishkek, stands as one of the most important architectural landmarks of medieval Central Asia.
By evening, we arrive in Bishkek and check into a cozy guesthouse, marking the end of our memorable journey through Kyrgyzstan’s lakes, mountains, and cultural treasures.
